FAQs

Grooming

  • Why does mobile grooming cost more than a shop?

Mobile grooming prices must include fuel costs, travel time, and wear and tear on the vehicle. Beyond these costs is the luxury service provided for your pet. Mobile grooming comes with many benefits for you and your dog that a shop can’t provide.

We use all natural shampoos and skin care products from trusted brands like Tropiclean, Espree and Lillian Ruff. Not only are these products safer and more gentle for your pet, they're highly effective and smell great too.

  • What are the benefits of using mobile grooming services for my dog?

    - Your pet gets a one-on-one experience with the groomer; they are not passed around from groomers to bathers and back again.

    - They do not have to sit in a shop or cage all day for hours on end.

    - Your pet is much calmer and happier about the grooming experience without the busyness and stress of a shop.

    - Mobile Grooming is the perfect solution for pets that get sick or stressed and do not travel well in the car.

    - If your dog does not get along with other dogs there are no worries in a mobile grooming van. It’s just your pet and the groomer in a safe calm environment.

  • What are the benefits of using mobile grooming services for me?

    - You don’t have to leave your house, and if you choose, you don’t even have to be home.

    - If you work during the day and can’t leave work to get your pet to and from a shop, we come to you. We can even come to your office if you take your dog to work with you.

    - You do not have to plan your day around drop-off and pick-up times.

    - If you are elderly or disabled and can no longer drive, you don’t have to find a ride or worry about any sort of transportation, we come to you!

    - Your car stays clean; you don’t have to put a dirty dog in your vehicle to transport them to the grooming shop.

  • How does mobile grooming work?

Everything needed to complete the grooming is inside the van. The vehicle is fully equipped with a table, tub (with warm temperature controlled water), dryers, tools etc. I arrive at your home within a 1 hour time period previously arranged and do all of my work in your driveway or on your curbside.

  • Can I see inside your van?

Yes, I take pride in keeping a clean, safe, and well equipped shop on wheels and would be happy to show you where your dog will be primped and pampered!

  • Can I stay with my pet while it’s being groomed?

It is usually best if the owner is not present. When dogs are in constant view of their mama’s or daddy’s they tend to wiggle and squirm in an effort to get to them even if they are standing right by the table. This makes it much more difficult for the groomer to do their job and puts the dog at risk of getting nicked because it is wiggling.

  • How long does grooming take?

It depends on the size, breed and coat condition of your dog. But typically, your dog will be returned to your house within 1-2 hours.

  • Can you remove mattes?

Mattes are caused by dirt and debris getting in the coat, causing it to tangle and matte. Severe matting can start to rub and chafe the skin causing open sores and bruising.  If the mattes are pelted and close to the skin it can be dangerous to try and comb, cut, or thin them out. It can also be an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience for your dog. The best thing to do in this situation is to shave the hair and start fresh. When your pet is severely matted the kindest thing to do is choose comfort over vanity. If the mattes are less severe and not clinging tightly to the skin, they can be removed without causing discomfort for your pet. Combing and brushing your pet between groomings and staying on a regular appointment schedule will keep your dog in great shape and matte-free.

  • If my dog has fleas can they still be groomed?

It is important to keep the van as clean and sterile as possible. If you know your dog has fleas, give them a flea bath and treat them with a preventative such as Frontline Plus or Advantix 2 days after the bath. At their appointment make sure to inform your groomer. If you are unaware of a flea problem and any live fleas are present on your pet they will receive a flea bath immediately.  There is an additional cost for this service.

  • My dog has been skunked, can you get rid of the smell?

Because the grooming van is a confined space we cannot perform a grooming on a skunked dog. Strong lingering odors such a skunk will give the vehicle a permanent unpleasant stench. It is unfair to other clients to have a stinky grooming shop. If your dog has been sprayed by a skunk wash your dog at home with a de-skunking shampoo. It may take some time and several baths later before your dog is rid of the smell. Once the odor has dissipated significantly your pet will be welcome back into the van for future appointments.

  • Does my dog need to be vaccinated for grooming services?

It is a Pennsylvania State Law to keep your pet current on the Rabies vaccination. I ask that my clients obey the law and abide by the rules of staying current on this particular shot.

  • Do you groom cats?

No, Shaggy to Chic, LLC, specializes in grooming dogs. However, if you need a referral please call to inquire.

Scheduling & Payments

  • How often should my dog be groomed?

Every 4-6 weeks is an ideal grooming cycle to keep your pet clean, matte-free, itch-free, and their skin and coat healthy.

  • I like to keep my dog on a regular schedule; can I schedule future appointments in advance?

Absolutely! I encourage all of my clients to reschedule and be consistent with appointments. This makes sure your pet stays in the best and healthiest condition possible and allows you to get the date and time that best suites your schedule.

  • I don’t want to reschedule immediately, can I call to make an appointment when my dog needs another grooming?

Rescheduling after each appointment is not required but is highly recommended.  If you wait until the last minute to schedule, there may be a wait or the day and/or time slot desired may not be available. Then you have to deal with a dirty dog for longer than you wanted and this also runs the risk of your pet getting a matted coat or irritated skin while you wait for your appointment day to arrive. This results in discomfort for you, you’re pet, and your wallet as extra charges could be added for de-matting. It is in the best interest of you and you’re pet to stay on a consistent schedule.
